LARA HOAD ARCHITECTURE DESIGN is a collaborative architecture and design practice located in Los Angeles and Joshua Tree, California. With a focus on community and sustainability, the firm straddles both practice and academia, Creating and Educating Architecture and Design with purpose for People, Place and Planet.
LARA HOAD AIA LEED AP
A licensed Architect in the State of California, and a LEED Accredited Professional, Lara was educated in her home city of London and has a BA (Hons) in Interior Design from Middlesex University and an MA in Architecture from the Royal College of Art.
Lara holds teaching positions at Otis College of Art and Design, where she teaches in the Sustainability minor including classes on Biomimicry and Science and Sustainable Design, and Woodbury School of Architecture, where she recently served as chair of the Interior Design department. Lara was previously in the role of Design Director at Santa Monica architecture practice March Studio and served as co-chair and is an active member of the Community Engagement Committee for the AIA/LA non-profit organization ACLA (Architecture for Communities Los Angeles).
Lara is a member of the Regenerative Rebuild Collective (RRC), an environmental activist, Climate Reality Leader, and crew member and ambassador for eXXpedition, the all-female sailing voyages exploring the impact of toxins and plastic pollution in our oceans. Lara also founded The Ocotillo - a house, workshop and gallery located in Joshua Tree hosting artist residencies supporting the Mojave Desert Land Trust for desert conservation.
SUNNY CHIANG
Sunem Chiang is a Junior Architectural Designer whose passion for architecture began as a childhood dream and has shaped her academic and creative journey. She earned her Bachelor of Architecture from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, graduating Summa Cum Laude and earning consistent recognition on the Dean’s List.
Her work has been honored with the Housing Design Award, the Jack & Marilyn Zumber Award, and repeated selection by faculty for exhibitions at the CPP Interim Event. She is an active member of Tau Sigma Delta Honor Society and AIAS, and has exhibited her projects at national Precast Concrete Shows in Denver (2024) and Indianapolis (2025).
Bilingual in English and Spanish, Sunny is dedicated to creating thoughtful, enduring spaces that respond to people’s needs and reflect her belief in architecture’s power to care for communities.
